Ted has plaster falling off of his concrete condo kitchen ceilings. Apparently it is related to moisture, so it would be a good idea to see if there is a leak from above, or a lot of excess moisture in the kitchen itself. Exhaust fans may solve the problem.
Sometimes you just can't solve the problem completely when plaster is directly on concrete and then it is recommended that you strap over the problem to create an air space and then put drywall on the strapping. Even if you do find the moisture source, it is sometimes easier to strap and drywall than to try and patch the now ugly plaster patches.
If you think the photos look a bit strange, we turned the camera up-side-down so you could see my bench top as a ceiling. I just love that we can get away with anything in TV.
