When we tape outside corners we always use a reinforced corner bead, usually a full piece of metal. That was always difficult to nail on without creating waves in the metal so they came out with metal corner bead with a paper wrap so you didn't have to use nails. But this too came in long lengths that can easily get damaged on a job.

So someone out in Central Bedeque, Prince Edward Island decided to make a flexible outside corner bead and called it QuikCorner. There are two pieces of plastic sandwiched between two pieces of paper and all of this is in a standard type of drywall tape roll. It is creased in the middle so you can make both inside and outside corners with it and the plastic gives you the corner strength that you need. They like to say you can use it anywhere except on a butt joint.

It definitely has its advantages, although drywalling is a very personal art and you need to try it out to see if you like using it.
